At Phone Number Formatter, we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how we handle your information when you use our phone number formatting tool.

The Short Version

We don't collect, store, or share any of your data. All phone number formatting happens entirely in your browser. Your phone numbers never leave your device unless you choose to open them on our website.

How Our Tool Works

Our phone number formatter is a client-side application. This means:

  • All processing happens in your browser using JavaScript
  • Phone numbers you enter are processed locally on your device
  • No data is transmitted to our servers or any third-party servers automatically
  • Nothing is stored in databases or log files
  • If you click "Open Site" or "Unlock", your formatted number is passed to phonenumberformatter.app as a URL parameter — this is always user-initiated

Browser Extension

The Phone Number Formatter Chrome extension is covered by this privacy policy. Here is a complete account of every data operation the extension performs.

Permissions & What They Do

  • contextMenus — Adds a "📞 Format Phone Number" item to your browser's right-click menu. When you select text on any webpage and click that menu item, the selected text is captured temporarily and used to pre-fill the extension popup. It is never stored beyond the lifetime of that single popup session.
  • storage — Allows two local data stores, both entirely on your device:
    • chrome.storage.local key lastCountry: saves the country code you last used (e.g. "US") so it is pre-selected next time you open the popup. Persists across browser sessions. Never transmitted anywhere.
    • chrome.storage.session key contextSelection: temporarily holds the text you selected via the right-click menu. Deleted the instant the popup reads it. Never transmitted anywhere.

Clipboard

When you click a "Copy" button in the extension popup, the formatted phone number is written to your clipboard using the browser Clipboard API. This action is always user-initiated — the extension never writes to your clipboard in the background.

When You Click "Open Site" or "🔓 Unlock"

The extension generates a link to https://phonenumberformatter.app/?q=[number] with your formatted phone number as a URL query parameter. The number only reaches our website if you explicitly click that link. No background transmission ever occurs. Once on the website, this privacy policy and the website's cookie policy apply.

No Tracking or Analytics

The extension contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or tracking code of any kind. It makes zero network requests unless you click a link to open the website.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • libphonenumber-js - An open-source library that runs entirely in your browser for phone number formatting
  • Hosting - Our website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which may collect standard web server logs (IP addresses, timestamps) for security purposes
  • Google Analytics - With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. IP anonymisation is enabled. Google Privacy Policy
  • Google AdSense - With your consent, we use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings. Google Privacy Policy

Cookies

We do not use cookies for tracking or analytics. Our website may use essential cookies required for basic functionality, but these do not track or store personal information.
